The Gambia has officially launched the National Payment Systems Advisory Committee (NPSAC), a high-level, multi-stakeholder body aimed at strengthening governance, policy coordination, and strategic oversight across the country’s digital payment ecosystem. This new committee builds on the success of BANTABA 2.0, the nation’s real-time, fully interoperable payment system based on Mojaloop technology, which provides the technical infrastructure for instant, secure digital transactions. NPSAC brings together regulators, government agencies, financial institutions, fintechs, and development partners to advise on payment policy, support risk management and consumer protection, and promote interoperability, ensuring that digital finance benefits all citizens.
The Committee’s formation represents a significant step in The Gambia’s broader financial inclusion and digital economy goals, complementing initiatives like the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and the Digital Economy Master Plan 2023–2033. With quarterly meetings and a three-year term, NPSAC will serve as a consultative platform aligning national payment reforms with global best practices while safeguarding financial stability and encouraging innovation. Its creation underscores the understanding that sustainable payment system reform requires more than technology—it needs strong governance, coordination, and public trust.
