The Mojaloop Design Authority (DA) provides technical oversight for the Mojaloop open source platform. It provides leadership on technical issues, resolves technical disputes, reviews technology proposals and more.

This year, we’re holding the DA elections a few months in advance of the other Community Council elections to start working under our new charter as soon as possible.

A total of six voting seats are up for election, with an additional three filled by the Mojaloop Foundation’s engineering director, technical director, and director of product. Each workstream will be able to send a non-voting member to participate. Members of the Design Authority will serve for two years and can be re-elected.

Responsibilities of the DA include but are not limited to:

  1. Identify and manage business and technical risks related to the Mojaloop platform.
  2. Ensure compliance with standards and best practices for critical financial infrastructure.
  3. Produce and maintain documentation, training materials, and standards.
  4. Operate, enforce, and participate in the Mojaloop design and code review processes.
  5. Safeguard the cohesiveness of Mojaloop’s codebase, documentation, and artifacts.
  6. Maintain a technical architecture roadmap and manage approved technology stack components.
  7. Preserve adherence to security practices and standards.
  8. Encourage community participation in development.
  9. Communicate decisions and recommendations to Mojaloop governance bodies and the community.
  10. Collaborate with the Board of Directors (BoD) and Technical Governing Board (TGB) to maintain and update the DA charter as needed.

A full list of responsibilities is available in the new charter. You can read an overview of the changes here.

Qualifications

To qualify for a seat on the Design Authority, you must have a demonstrable knowledge of the Mojaloop codebase and have been actively involved in workstreams for at least a year preceding your nomination. A track record in software architecture is also important. To fully understand the necessity for a level of engineering rigor that will withstand regulatory audits, nominees should also have technical leadership experience on a product in a regulated financial domain — Mojaloop implementations qualify for this consideration. You will also need to abide by the Mojaloop Community Code of Conduct.

The time commitment is now three to six hours per week, depending on if the DA member is involved in code reviews.
