Mojaloop Deployments
Our involvement was in deploying a payment manager (connector) that enabled peer-to-peer payments for SmartPAY in a test environment. This involved configuring Mojaloop’s core components and integrating the payment manager to facilitate seamless transactions between users. While the deployment was in a test environment, the experience provided insights into Mojaloop’s architecture, particularly around handling interoperability and ensuring accurate transaction processing. The test environment setup allowed us to experiment with peer-to-peer payment flows and assess potential scaling strategies for production deployment.
Mojaloop Integrations
In connecting SmartPAY to Mojaloop, the focus was on integrating a payment manager (connector) to enable peer-to-peer payments. This involved ensuring seamless interoperability between SmartPAY and Mojaloop’s open-source financial switch. We worked on establishing APIs that linked SmartPAY’s wallet platform with Mojaloop’s central services to facilitate real-time transactions.
Although this was deployed in a test environment, the experience highlighted key integration challenges such as ensuring data consistency and message format compatibility across systems. Additionally, we explored future potential for linking core banking platforms and other digital public goods, laying the groundwork for future production-scale integrations. This also required close attention to compliance with Mojaloop’s standard protocols for financial inclusion and transaction flows.
Mojaloop Products
The following products have been tested with Mojaloop:
1. SmartPAY: A web payment portal that facilitates utility bill payments, regulatory payments, and funds transfers. SmartPAY is widely deployed across more than 15 banks in Zambia, offering seamless integration with Mojaloop to handle peer-to-peer transactions and utility payments.
2. UNKA-Go: A taxi-hailing application that integrates in-app payment functionalities, enabling users to pay for rides, deliveries, and even utility bills through the app. With Mojaloop, UNKA-Go will ensure secure and real-time payment processing for its users.
3. Bevura: A lifestyle wallet platform that supports a variety of transactions. It is designed to work with Mojaloop to ensure interoperability and streamline digital wallet payments across various sectors.
During tests these products leveraged Mojaloop’s open-source infrastructure to provide efficient, scalable payment solutions across different use cases.
Payment Technology Experience
In addition to Mojaloop, our payment technology experience includes working with:
1. Zambia’s NFS (National Financial Switch): This involves the integration of banks and financial institutions into a central switch for interbank transactions, ATM, and point-of-sale (POS) transactions. Our work with NFS focused on ensuring interoperability between banks, enabling seamless real-time transaction processing across various financial institutions in Zambia. This included handling card-based payments and facilitating secure, compliant, and efficient funds transfer mechanisms.
2. TCIB (Transactions Cleared on an Immediate Basis): TCIB is a real-time, low-value payment system that supports instant payments. We have been involved in deploying and customizing TCIB for instant peer-to-peer payments, focusing on ensuring secure and rapid transaction clearances. The system allows for immediate credit transfers between participating banks and financial service providers, enhancing financial inclusion and user convenience.
These experiences have provided insights into payment processing, security protocols, and system interoperability across financial ecosystems.
