Guinea has taken a major step toward modernizing its financial infrastructure with the launch of a national Système de Paiement Instantané (SPI) initiative, designed to enable real-time digital payments across the country. Announced during a national workshop convened by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea and ecosystem stakeholders, the project aims to create an inclusive, interoperable payment platform that connects banks, electronic money providers, microfinance institutions and fintech innovators. The SPI will be built on the open source Mojaloop platform — a strategic choice intended to support national digital sovereignty, reduce dependence on proprietary systems and foster innovation across the payments ecosystem.
The initiative is being supported by technical partners including AfricaNenda and ThitsaWorks, which will contribute expertise to the development and implementation of the Mojaloop-based infrastructure. Once deployed, the system is expected to enable instant transfers, expand financial inclusion, support government and merchant payments, and reduce reliance on cash — positioning Guinea to join the growing group of countries deploying modern real-time payment systems.
