Description

Now in its 8th year, FIW is a forum for exchanging ideas, research, and perspectives from around the world. The Center for Financial Inclusion (CFI) convenes FIW each year and invites partner organizations to showcase work, share ideas on what’s ahead and engage with the community.

Title: Instant Interoperable Payment Systems – Bridging or Widening the Digital Divide?

Description: IIPS offers an opportunity to finally bridge the digital divide, reaching beyond payments and enabling the digital economy, but not all payment infrastructure plans are on an inclusive path. Including all people means, including financial institutions and use cases that matter beyond the urban middle class.

  • What different trends are we seeing in Africa vs Asia in IIPS / RTP?
  • What are some of the challenges to including non-banks and small or rural banks into payment infrastructure?
  • What are the system cost drivers that are standing in the way of inclusivity?
  • What are the risks to further exclusion with IIPSs?

Speakers:

  • Moderator: Steve Haley, Director of Market Development and Partnerships, Mojaloop Foundation
  • Paul Makin, Product Management, Mojaloop Foundation
  • Russell Toth, Researcher, University of Sydney
  • Nyi Aye, CEO, Thitsaworks
  • Michael Mbutia,  AfricaNenda
